Chapter 7 - The Interception

Two days later, the warning signs my father predicted materialized with terrifying precision.

It was a crisp Thursday afternoon. The autumn wind whistled through the manicured trees of the estate as I sat in the sunroom, helping my eldest daughter, Sophia, with her school art project while baby Thomas slept soundly in his bassinet nearby.

Suddenly, the estate’s secure perimeter alarm chimed—a low, rhythmic pulse that indicated a high-priority digital breach and an external vehicle approach.

Within seconds, the heavy oak doors of the sunroom slid open, and Major Vance—one of my father’s most trusted senior black-ops commanders—stepped inside, his expression rigid and professional.

"Sarah, we have a situation," Major Vance said without preamble, holding out a ruggedized military tablet. "The estate's encrypted communications grid just intercepted an unauthorized transmission originating from a black-market satellite relay outside city limits."

I stood up quickly, wiping paint off my hands with a paper towel. "What kind of transmission?"

"A localized tracking signal targeting this specific address," Vance explained, tapping the screen to bring up a digital map. "And it’s paired with an encrypted text message sent directly to David’s former legal counsel—a message demanding the immediate release of offshore corporate ledger keys that David supposedly hid before his arrest."

My heart pounded against my ribs. "David hid corporate assets? Even after everything was frozen?"

"It appears so," Vance nodded grimly. "And the people backing him aren't willing to lose their investments. They aren't just looking to free David anymore. They're looking to recover their capital—by any means necessary."

Before I could process the gravity of the situation, the double doors at the front of the estate shuddered under the heavy thud of multiple boots hitting the porch.

"Code Red," Vance muttered, his hand dropping instinctively to his sidearm as federal security guards rushed down the hallway, weapons drawn and positioned at tactical choke points. "They didn't wait for a warrant. They’re here."
