Chapter 10 - The Eternal Haven

Two years later.

The golden afternoon sun of late September bathed the grounds of the Mercer estate in a rich, amber light.

The grand lawn overlooking the ocean cliffs was set up for an intimate, elegant celebration. White linen tables adorned with wild roses and lavender dotted the green grass, surrounded by close friends, legal associates, and community leaders.

Today was the formal opening of the Catherine Mercer Children's Hospital, as well as a joyous personal celebration.

Dominic stood on the wide stone terrace of the main mansion, wearing a immaculate dark gray suit. Beside him stood Clara, wearing an elegant silk maternity dress that softly highlighted her growing bump—she was six months pregnant with their first child, a baby girl.

Natalie sat at one of the main tables, laughing as Noah—now twelve years old and taller—showed his friends a drone he had built for his middle-school science fair project.

Emma stood near the entrance of the terrace, dressed in a beautiful navy dress, greeting guests with the grace and dignity of a true matriarch of the household.

Arthur Vance walked over to Dominic, holding two glasses of sparkling cider. He handed one to his son-in-law.

"The state inspection for the hospital passed with flying colors this morning, Dominic," Arthur reported proudly. "The doors open to the public on Monday."

"That's wonderful news, Arthur," Dominic smiled, touching his glass to Arthur's. "Thank you for everything you've done to make this happen."

"It was an honor," Arthur said gently, looking at his daughter Clara, whose face was glowing with pure happiness. "Your mother’s legacy is in good hands."

As the afternoon turned into early evening, the guests began to drift toward the garden pavilion for dinner and music.

Dominic took Clara’s hand, leading her quietly away from the crowd down the stone path that led toward the cliffside willow tree near the east cottage.

They stopped at the edge of the overlook, watching the sun slowly dip below the horizon, painting the sky in breathtaking shades of deep crimson, gold, and violet.

Clara rested her head softly against Dominic's shoulder, her hand resting over her belly.

"What are you thinking about, darling?" she asked softly.

Dominic wrapped his arm securely around her waist, pulling her close against his heart. He looked back toward the cottage, where light was shining warmly through the windows, where his sister's laughter echoed across the lawn, and where his nephew was running freely under the trees.

"I was thinking about the morning I came back," Dominic whispered, kissing her soft hair. "I came back to test a fiancée I didn't trust, expecting to find lies and greed."

He looked into Clara's loving eyes, his heart filled with an overwhelming, profound peace.

"And instead," Dominic said, a deep, beautiful smile lighting up his face, "I found the way back to my family, to my truth, and to you."

The ocean breeze blew softly through the branches of the old willow tree, carrying the sweet scent of lavender across the cliffs, as the stars began to sparkle over the eternal sanctuary of the Mercer home.
