CHAPTER 2: THE EVIDENCE THAT NEVER EXISTED

The judge leaned forward.

“Explain yourself.”

Ethan wiped his face roughly.

“They said she stole money from the accounts,” he said quickly. “But I saw who actually did it.”

The prosecutor interrupted immediately.

“This is a coached testimony!”

But Ethan raised his voice again.

“No! I saw the files on the computer in the study!”

A ripple moved through the courtroom.

Clara shook her head violently.

“No, Ethan, you weren’t supposed to—”

The boy continued anyway.

“I saw Mr. Harrington transfer money at night. I saw him print fake reports. And I saw him blame her.”

The entire courtroom shifted.

The judge frowned.

“That’s a serious allegation.”

Ethan nodded.

“I know.”

Then he added something that made the air turn cold.

“That’s why they told me I was imagining things.”

Silence.

Clara stared at him.

“What are you saying?”

Ethan turned toward her.

“They told me you were dangerous.”

His voice cracked.

“But you were the only one who never lied to me.”

Something in the room changed.

The prosecutor slammed his hand on the desk.

“This is manipulation! A child cannot interpret financial crime!”

But Ethan suddenly reached into his pocket.

And pulled out a small USB drive.

Clara gasped.

“No, Ethan—”

But it was too late.

The judge leaned forward.

“What is that?”

Ethan held it up.

“Copies of everything.”

The courtroom erupted.

“What?!”

“Objection!”

“Stop this immediately!”

But Ethan’s voice rose above it all.

“Bank transfers. Emails. Recordings.”

A pause.

Then—

“Everything they told her didn’t exist.”

Clara’s breath shook.

“Ethan… how did you get that?”

The boy looked at her.

And for the first time—

he smiled faintly through tears.

“You always told me to be careful.”

A pause.

“So I was.”

The prosecutor looked panicked now.

“Your Honor, this is clearly fabricated—”

But the judge raised a hand.

“Play it.”

May you like

Silence.

“Now.”
