Chapter 10 - The Unbroken Light

The sun was setting over the Pacific Ocean, casting long, golden rays across the garden terrace of my Hidden Hills home.
I stood near the edge of the stone balcony, wearing a simple sleeveless cream-colored dress. The white scar along my shoulder and collarbone was visible in the soft evening light—a smooth, pale reminder of the fire I had walked through.
Rachel walked out onto the terrace carrying two glasses of chilled sparkling water, handing one to me.
"What are you thinking about, Clara?" she asked, leaning against the stone railing beside me, looking out at the glowing city skyline.
I took a slow sip of water, feeling the cool ocean breeze touch my face, breathing in the sweet scent of blooming jasmine from the garden below.
"I was thinking about the night Ethan stepped over me on the kitchen floor," I said softly, my voice calm, peaceful, and entirely free of pain. "He thought he was stepping over a defeated woman. He didn't realize he was stepping over the woman who was about to dismantle his entire life."
"And now?" Rachel asked, looking at me with a soft smile.

I looked out at the vast, shining horizon stretching endlessly toward the ocean—a world that belonged entirely to me, unbowed, free, and protected by the truth.
"Now," I smiled, raising my glass against the setting sun, "I’m going to enjoy my dinner."
