Chapter 4: The Ripple Effect

The news of Elena’s success spread through the professional circles like wildfire. Her firm, Vantage Strategies, landed a government contract that would secure her legacy for the next decade. She became a mentor for young women in the industry, often telling them the same advice: "Never build your house on someone else's foundation if they don't value your labor."

While she was conquering the business world, Evelyn was sinking into the depths of a reality she had tried to shield herself from for years. Without the house and the luxury, she was forced to move into a low-income senior apartment. She tried to maintain her arrogance, but the other tenants didn't care about her former social status. She was just another woman with a bad attitude and no money.

Marcus, meanwhile, had hit rock bottom. He’d lost the dealership job after he started showing up late and disheveled, constantly distracted by the legal notices piling up on his desk. He ended up living in his car for a month before his friends finally cut him off entirely.

It was during this time that Elena received a letter. It wasn't from Marcus, but from the court. The lien she had placed on the house had gone through, and the property was being auctioned. She stood on the sidewalk during the auction, watching as a family—young, hardworking, and humble—won the bid.

She saw Marcus standing in the crowd, watching his life be sold off in pieces. He looked at her, his eyes hollow. He didn't approach her. He knew better. For a moment, their eyes locked—the woman who had risen from the ashes, and the man who had burned his own kingdom down.

She looked away. She had nothing left to say to him.
