Chapter 10 - The Harvest of Peace

The summer sun was setting behind the Big Horn mountains, casting a long, golden-purple glow across the backyard of the house on Elm Street. The air was warm, sweet with the scent of freshly cut grass and the large beds of white hydrangeas Blair had planted along the perimeter fence.

A long wooden table had been set up in the center of the lawn, covered in a simple cream-colored linen cloth and crowded with platters of fresh summer salads, artisan cheeses, and bottles of chilled white wine.

It was an evening dedicated to the people who had stood by her when the dark columns had closed in.

Marcus Vance was there, dressed in a casual summer jacket, laughing heartily as he shared a bottle of vintage wine with Arrington from the compliance division. Sarah and Celeste were sitting on the new teak patio chairs, their faces bright and relaxed under the strings of warm Edison bulbs that stretched between the old maple trees.

Blair walked out of the kitchen door, carrying a large silver platter of grilled salmon. She was wearing a simple, elegant emerald-green sun dress, her hair falling softly over her shoulders, her face radiant with a healthy, vibrant beauty that came from a soul completely at peace with itself.

She set the platter down in the center of the table, her eyes scanning the faces of her friends, her colleagues, her true family—the family she had chosen through shared loyalty, respect, and mutual protection.

"A toast," Marcus said, standing up and raising his crystal glass into the golden twilight air. "To Blair Sinclair. A woman who knows exactly who she is, what she owns, and how to defend the house she built."

The guests cheered, their glasses clinking loudly against the quiet, rhythmic background noise of the evening breeze.

Blair smiled, her heart swelling with a profound, unshakeable warmth that made her eyes sting with a single, happy tear. She raised her own glass, looking around at the beautiful, safe perimeter of her life.

"To the house," Blair said softly, her voice steady, rich, and full of the endless future that stretched out before her. "And to the doors that stay locked against the thieves, and open to the truth."

She sat down among her friends, the laughter rising up into the summer sky as the darkness fell, a perfect, unassailable peace settling over Elm Street, holding her secure within the beautiful, triumphant legacy of her own strength.
