Chapter 5 - The Press Conference

By 10:00 AM, the ground-floor auditorium of the corporate tower was packed to capacity.

Camera crews from Bloomberg, CNBC, Wall Street Journal, and CNN jammed the aisles, their tripod lenses gleaming under the harsh stage lights. Microphones bristled across the podium like a forest of metal reeds. Flashbulbs popped in rapid, blinding succession as I walked onto the stage, accompanied by Marcus and Priya.

I stepped up to the podium, adjusting the microphone. The murmurs in the audience died down instantly.

“Good morning,” I began, my voice steady, resonant, and broadcasted live to millions of viewers across the country. “Effective immediately, Adrian Vale has been stripped of all executive titles, voting rights, and operational authority at Vale Dynamics—which as of this morning, has officially returned to its original corporate identity: Marlowe Technologies.”

A collective gasp rippled through the press corps. Hands shot up instantly in the front row.

“Mrs. Vale! Is it true that Mr. Vale was arrested by federal marshals this morning?” shouted a reporter from Bloomberg.

“Yes, it is true,” I answered without hesitation. “Mr. Vale is currently facing multiple felony charges, including domestic battery and federal financial fraud. As a company, we do not comment on ongoing criminal investigations regarding individuals who are no longer associated with our organization.”

“Rumors are circulating that the eighty-million-dollar DoD contract is in jeopardy due to the leadership shakeup!” called out a reporter from the Wall Street Journal.

I offered a calm, confident smile—the kind of smile that didn’t reach my eyes, but radiated absolute control.

“To put those rumors to rest: the family trust backing Marlowe Technologies has injected twenty million dollars in fresh liquidity this morning to ensure uninterrupted operations,” I replied smoothly. “Furthermore, our compliance audits have revealed that Mr. Vale was systematically looting corporate accounts to fund personal indiscretions—accounts that have already been frozen and placed under federal receivership for restitution.”

I paused, letting the magnitude of the disclosure sink into the room.

“For too long, corporate culture has rewarded aggressive narcissism disguised as leadership, tolerating abusive behavior behind closed doors under the excuse of ‘genius,’” I said, looking directly into the primary camera lens that was broadcasting live to Wall Street. “That era ends today at Marlowe Technologies. We build software that secures nations, but we will never compromise the security of the people who build it.”

I stepped back from the podium as a deafening wave of camera shutters and shouted questions erupted around me. I didn’t look back. I turned, walked off the stage, and headed straight back to the private elevator.
