Chapter 9 - The Final Convergence

The peace of the Berkshires was a temporary sanctuary. By December, Anthony was on his feet again, his powerful frame recovered through sheer force of will and the meticulous medical regimen I had designed for him. His jaw had hardened into a permanent line of strategic focus; the Morettis were still in New York, and the port of Boston was still under a state of cold, tense standoff.

"They are meeting at the old waterfront warehouse on Friday night," Marco reported during a closed-door meeting in the cabin’s study. "The Moretti underboss, Santino, is flying in. He thinks you're dead, Boss. He thinks Julian is running a fractured family."

Anthony stood by the window, watching the snow fall over the pine trees. He was wearing a fresh three-piece suit, his shoulder holster hidden beneath his jacket. He looked like the king who had returned to claim his crown.

"Let him think that," Anthony said, his voice a low, lethal rumble. "We terminate this conflict on the docks. Where my grandfather started this business. But I want Hannah and Leo moved to the safe house in Maine before the sun goes down."

"No," I said, stepping into the study and closing the heavy oak door behind me.

Anthony turned, his silver eyes narrowing into a warning glare. "Hannah, this is not an operation for civilians. It is going to be a bloodbath."

"I am not a civilian anymore, Anthony," I said, walking up to him, my gaze remaining steady against his formidable presence. "I am the woman who held your heart in her hands. I am the person who looks after your son. If you're going to war for this city, you're going to war so we can have a life together. I am staying right here until it’s over."

Anthony stared at me for a long, heavy moment. The absolute ice in his features slowly melted into a profound, fierce pride. He walked over, grabbed me by the waist, and pulled me against his chest with a force that took my breath away.

"You are an incredibly stubborn woman, Dr. Collins," he murmured against my hair.

"I learned from a mafia boss," I said, looking up into his eyes.

The confrontation at the waterfront was short, devastating, and clean. Anthony didn't send an army; he sent a legal and financial ambush that the Morettis never saw coming. While Santino Moretti was waiting at the warehouse for a shootout, the FBI was currently raiding his New York headquarters using a massive digital ledger of offshore transit records that I had helped Julian extract from the hospital’s VIP donor database—records that linked the Morettis to a multi-million-dollar money laundering scheme through Boston real estate.

Anthony didn't need to fire a single shot. By midnight, Santino Moretti was in federal custody, and the Moretti empire was retreating back across the Connecticut border, completely broken.
