Chapter 10 - A New Horizon

Five years later.
The afternoon sun blazed golden over the gardens of the Maro Estate. Children’s laughter rang out across the lush lawn.
Six-year-old Leo, Luca, and Mia were running through the sprinklers, chasing after their golden retriever puppy. They were healthy, vibrant, and top of their class at school, completely erased of the fragile premature infants they had once been.
Sitting on the porch sofa, Dela leaned back, sipping fresh iced tea. Her rounded belly showed prominently under a yellow summer dress—she was eight months pregnant with a little baby girl.
Antoine walked out onto the porch, carrying a tray of fresh fruit. He set it down on the table, then sat down beside Dela, pulling her against his chest and wrapping his arms around her rounded stomach.
He leaned down, pressing a warm kiss against her neck. “How are my girls doing today?”
“We’re wonderful,” Dela smiled, resting her head against his shoulder. “She’s kicking a lot today. I think she’s going to be as headstrong as her father.”
Antoine laughed softly, his hands resting gently over her belly. “As long as she has her mother’s heart, she will be perfect.”
In the yard, the triplets spotted their parents on the porch and came running up the steps, covered in water and big grins.
“Mama! Papa!” Mia shouted, climbing onto the sofa and pressing her cheek against Dela’s arm. “Leo stole my ball!”
“Did not!” Leo yelled, splashing water everywhere. “Luca threw it!”
Dela laughed, pulling all three children into a big, warm hug, completely unbothered by the wet clothes. Antoine wrapped his arms around all of them, holding his complete, beautiful family close.
Donovan walked onto the porch, holding a file, but stopped when he saw the happy scene. He smiled warmly, setting the file down on a side table. “Everything is quiet in the city, Boss. Nothing that needs your attention today.”
“Good,” Antoine said without looking up from his family. “Because I am right where I belong.”
Dela looked around at the laughter, the sunshine, and the overwhelming love surrounding her. The ignored, plus-sized waitress who used to hide in the shadows of a diner was gone forever. In her place stood a loved wife, a cherished mother, and the undisputed Queen of New Orleans.
