Chapter 6 - The Unraveling

Inside the master suite of the Callaway Mansion, the air was thick with the scent of stale wine and bitter resentment. Weston sat on the edge of the large velvet bed, his tie undone, staring at a series of foreclosure notices from the regional bank. For four years, he had tried to pretend that his life was a triumph. He had married Camille, he had a beautiful son, and he was the CEO of Callaway Holdings.

But the reality was a nightmare.

Camille was no longer the sharp, accommodating assistant she had been. She was cold, demanding, and constantly paranoid. She spent millions of dollars from the corporate expense accounts on luxury villas in Europe, claiming she needed "respite" from the stress of the city.

"Weston!" Camille’s sharp, piercing voice rang out as she slammed the bedroom door open. She was holding a legal document, her face twisted into a mask of pure fury. "What is this? The bank just frozen the auxiliary offshore trust account! They’re saying there's an ownership dispute regarding the foundational capital!"

Weston didn't even look up. "The bank is doing a routine compliance review, Camille. Leave me alone. I’m trying to figure out how to pay our logistics vendors before they shut down the supply lines to our downtown hotel tomorrow morning."

"I don't care about the vendors!" Camille screamed, throwing the document at his chest. "That trust is for Liam! My son is a Callaway! He is the heir to this entire empire! Your father promised me that the moment Liam turned four, the primary shares would transfer to his name!"

"Your son," a deep, booming voice interrupted from the doorway.

Preston Callaway stood there, his gold-plated cane trembling in his grip, his eyes wild with a sudden, devastating shock. Behind him stood Adele, her face completely pale, holding a tablet that was displaying a live, encrypted data feed.

"Dad?" Weston asked, frowning as he stood up. "What's wrong?"

"Look at this," Preston whispered, his voice cracking with an old man’s sudden, helpless terror. He threw the tablet onto the bed. "Look at the DNA match records that were just uploaded to the state corporate registry by an anonymous compliance auditor five minutes ago."

Weston picked up the tablet. His eyes scanned the scientific spreadsheets, the percentage matches, the biometric profiles.

The DNA profile of Liam Callaway did not match Camille Russo.

It matched Clara Jenkins—a former night cleaner at the Callaway Tower.

And the father’s line? It matched Weston Callaway.

Weston’s world didn't just crack; it completely shattered into a million pieces of jagged glass. He looked up at Camille, his face turning a ghostly, bloodless white. "Camille... what... what is this? Who is Liam?"

Camille looked at the screen, and for the first time in four years, the cold, arrogant mask she wore completely melted away, revealing the terrified, cornered criminal underneath. She took a step back, her hands flying to her mouth. "Weston... listen to me... it doesn't matter... he’s still your son... he’s your biological bloodline... I did it for us... I did it to give your family the heir they wanted—"

"You lying bitch!" Adele roared, stepping forward and slapping Camille across the face with a force that sent the younger woman crashing against the vanity table. "You brought a maid’s bastard into our family trust! You made us throw away our legal family for a servant's child!"

"He’s my blood, Mom!" Weston screamed, his head pounding with a sudden, violent agony. "He’s still my son!"

"He is your son, Weston," a cool, melodic voice whispered from the doorway of the bedroom.

The family spun around to see Sable Reed standing there. She wasn't wearing a wheelchair, and she wasn't wearing the simple linen dresses of a contracts auditor. She wore a stunning, tailored emerald-green business suit, her long dark hair cascading over her shoulders, her eyes shining with the fierce, unyielding light of a conqueror. Behind her stood Christian, flanked by four federal officers and a young woman holding a three-year-old child.

"Sable..." Weston gasped, his voice breaking as he took a step toward her, his hands shaking. "Sable... please..."

"Hello, Weston," Sable said, her lips curving into a cold, beautiful smirk. "Four years ago, you told me you wouldn't put your name on my daughter because you had a son with another woman. It turns out, you were right about the other woman. You just picked the wrong one."
