CHAPTER 3 – THE FIRST COLLAPSE

Sebastian Harrow did not notice the moment his life began to fall apart.

Not at first.

Collapse, in his world, never arrived as noise. It arrived as delay.

A delayed reply.
A missing signature.
A meeting that didn’t confirm.

Then everything else followed.

1. The Empty Chair

The boardroom on the 67th floor of Harrow Capital was already full when Sebastian arrived.

No one stood.

No one greeted him.

That alone made him pause.

His assistant, Daniel, avoided eye contact as he placed a folder on the table.

“We’ve been trying to reach you since 6 a.m.,” Daniel said carefully.

Sebastian frowned. “I was in a meeting.”

“With who?” someone asked.

Sebastian turned toward the voice.

A board member—Evelyn Cross—was watching him like he had already lost authority in the room.

“What is this about?” Sebastian asked.

Evelyn slid a tablet across the table.

On it:

Harrow Capital internal transaction audit — flagged transfers
Three offshore accounts frozen
Two regulatory inquiries opened overnight

Sebastian didn’t move for a full five seconds.

“That’s impossible,” he said finally.

Evelyn’s voice was calm.

“Not anymore.”

2. The Natalie Problem

Sebastian stepped out of the room.

Not because he was dismissed.

But because staying would have meant reacting.

And he had spent his entire life not reacting.

He dialed Natalie Vance.

One ring.

Two.

Three.

She answered on the fourth.

“Sebastian,” she said softly, like she had been expecting him.

“What did you do?” he asked.

A pause.

Then a quiet exhale—almost amused.

“I didn’t do anything you didn’t allow.”

His grip tightened on the phone.

“This is about Claire.”

Another pause.

Longer this time.

“Ah,” Natalie said. “So she finally stepped out of the frame.”

Sebastian’s voice dropped.

“If she’s involved in this—”

“She isn’t,” Natalie interrupted.

A beat.

“Yet.”

3. Claire Harrow Disappears

Across Manhattan, Claire moved through the city like someone who no longer belonged to it.

No driver.

No security.

No phone connected to Sebastian’s network.

Only Griffin Tate’s encrypted burner device.

They met in a small office above an abandoned bookstore in SoHo.

“You did well leaving quickly,” Griffin said.

“I didn’t leave quickly,” Claire replied. “I left completely.”

Griffin studied her.

“You understand what you’re carrying now?”

Claire placed a USB drive on the table.

“Yes,” she said. “Proof that my husband’s company is not just unstable… but structured around something I was never supposed to see.”

Griffin didn’t touch it.

“That’s not just financial evidence anymore,” he said. “That’s leverage.”

Claire’s voice was quiet.

“I don’t want leverage.”

Griffin finally looked at her directly.

“Then you’re in the wrong war.”

4. The First Crack in Harrow Capital

By noon, the story was already leaking.

Not fully.

Never fully.

Just enough to poison confidence.

Harrow Capital offshore review underway.

Unnamed regulatory scrutiny.

Concerns about executive-level compliance exposure.

Sebastian stood alone in his office watching it unfold across multiple screens.

Every headline felt like a misprint.

Every update felt like a glitch.

And yet none of it stopped.

Daniel entered quietly.

“We’ve lost two institutional partners,” he said.

Sebastian didn’t look away from the screen.

“Temporarily,” he corrected.

Daniel hesitated.

“They didn’t say ‘temporarily.’”

Silence.

Then Sebastian finally turned.

“Find out who is pushing this.”

Daniel lowered his voice.

“It’s not external pressure, sir.”

A pause.

“It’s coming from inside.”

5. Natalie’s Real Work Begins

In a private office downtown, Natalie Vance watched Harrow Capital’s internal structure unfold on her monitors.

She wasn’t surprised.

She was timing it.

A man in the room spoke behind her.

“Sebastian is reacting faster than expected.”

Natalie smiled slightly.

“That’s because he still thinks this is about business.”

“And it’s not?”

Natalie clicked once.

A new file opened.

CLARKE INITIATIVE — PHASE 2 DEPLOYMENT

“Business is just the surface,” she said softly.

The man frowned. “Then what’s underneath?”

Natalie’s smile faded.

“A controlled removal of variables.”

She paused.

“Claire was never the target.”

Another click.

Sebastian Harrow’s profile expanded.

Highlighted:

EMOTIONAL INSTABILITY INDEX — RISING

Natalie leaned back.

“He is.”

6. The Phone Call That Changes Everything

That night, Sebastian tried Claire again.

Burner line.

No answer.

Again.

No answer.

On the third attempt, a message appeared:

UNKNOWN NUMBER: Stop calling. You are being monitored.

Sebastian froze.

Then another message followed.

UNKNOWN NUMBER: If you want her safe, stop looking for her.

His breathing changed.

For the first time in years, Sebastian Harrow felt something unfamiliar:

Not anger.

Not control.

But fear without structure.

7. The Collapse Becomes Visible

At 11:47 p.m., Harrow Capital’s stock dropped sharply.

Not a crash.

A signal.

Someone was pulling confidence out of the system deliberately.

Sebastian stood in his office, alone now.

Every screen reflected movement he could not stop.

And for the first time since he built his empire, he said something no one had ever heard from him before:

“Who is doing this to me?”

But there was no answer.

Because the truth was already forming elsewhere.

In Claire’s silence.

In Natalie’s control.

In Griffin Tate’s files.

May you like

And in a system that was no longer about money.

It was about ownership.
