Chapter 10 - The True Lineage

Two years later.
The golden summer sun was setting over the Atlantic Ocean, casting a warm, amber glow across the manicured lawns of Cliff House.
On the wooden deck overlooking the water, a massive oak dining table was set for a family feast. Plates of roasted vegetables, fresh seafood, and warm crusty bread were spread across the table.
Seven-year-old Leo, Luca, and Ava were running along the lawn, playing tag with Dante and Vitale, their joyous shrieks echoing across the quiet cliffs.
Serena sat at the head of the table, holding a small, seven-month-old baby boy wrapped in a light blue blanket. The baby—named Michael, after Serena’s late father—had his mother’s soft hazel eyes and his father’s dark, wavy hair.
Rocco walked out from the kitchen, wearing a comfortable linen shirt and dark trousers, carrying a wooden tray with glasses of fresh lemonade.
He walked up behind Serena, leaning down to press a kiss against the crown of her head, then gently touching the tiny cheek of his newborn son.
“Is he asleep?” Rocco whispered.
“Almost,” Serena smiled, looking up at him. “He just ate.”
Rocco looked out across the lawn. Leo had managed to tag Dante, who dramatically collapsed onto the grass, causing all three children to fall into fits of unstoppable laughter.
Rocco sat down beside Serena, reaching over to hold her hand under the table.
“What are you thinking about?” Serena asked softly, noticing the quiet, reflective look in his blue eyes.
Rocco looked down at their hands, then across at their four healthy, happy children playing freely in the sunlight.
“I was thinking about my mother,” Rocco admitted quietly, without any bitterness or pain in his voice. “She spent her entire life trying to protect a name. She thought power was found in ledgers, titles, and fear.”
He looked into Serena’s eyes—the eyes of the woman who had saved his life.
“She never understood,” Rocco said, pulling her hand to his lips and pressing a warm kiss against her ring finger, “that the only true power in this world… is the love you leave behind.”
Leo came running up the deck steps, breathless, his dark hair messy, his sharp blue eyes shining with excitement.
“Dad!” Leo shouted. “Luca says he can throw a stone further into the water than me! Come show him how to do it properly!”
Rocco laughed—a clear, ringing sound that carried across the cliffs, completely free of any shadow.

“I’m coming, Leo,” Rocco said, standing up from the table.
He looked back at Serena, who gave him a radiant, loving smile, and then walked down the steps into the bright evening light, surrounded by his children, his wife, and a future built on unbreakable truth.
