Chapter 10 - The Horizon of Grace

Spring arrived in Bedford with a burst of pink cherry blossoms and brilliant green fields.

On Leo’s fourth birthday, we hosted a simple, beautiful garden party on the lawn. Children from the local school ran through the sprinklers, music played softly from the terrace, and the scent of freshly cut grass filled the afternoon air.

I stood by the edge of the pond, wearing a simple white linen dress, holding a cup of tea.

Mr. Graves walked up beside me, carrying a small wrapped box.

"Happy birthday to the young master," Graves smiled, handing me the box. "A silver pocket watch from your father. Engraved."

I opened the box. On the back of the polished silver watch, my father had inscribed five simple words:

To Leo: Always Stand Tall.

I smiled, looking across the lawn.

My father was currently chasing Leo around the oak tree, pretending to be a dragon, while Leo’s infectious, ringing laughter filled the afternoon sky.

I pulled out my phone one last time, opening an old archived folder from four years ago.

Inside was the single screenshot I had saved from that awful afternoon—the Instagram post Caleb had made from my Maybach with the caption: Family first.

I looked at the image for two seconds. Then I tapped the screen, pressed Delete, and emptied the trash bin permanently.

I didn't need the evidence anymore. The record was closed. The debt was settled. The truth had won.

I walked down the green lawn toward my father and my son, the warm spring sun shining down on us, stepping forward into a future built on honor, strength, and absolute, everlasting grace.
