Chapter 3 - The Unveiling

By 9:30 PM, the gala had reached its peak. The ballroom doors were locked from the inside for the grand announcement. I stood on the raised stage, a microphone in my hand, with Tessa standing radiant beside me. Her mother and the top executives of Whitmore Enterprises stood in the front row, beaming.
"Ladies and gentlemen," I began, my voice echoing through the massive hall. The room fell completely silent. "Thank you for coming tonight to celebrate what was supposed to be the union of two great names."
Tessa leaned her head against my shoulder, smiling for the flashes of the photographers.
"For the past year, I believed I was a man who lost everything, only to be saved by the generosity of the Whitmore family," I continued. "I believed my ex-wife, Maren, had betrayed our marriage. I believed she was a fraud."
A few murmurs rippled through the crowd. Tessa stiffened slightly against me. "Rowan," she whispered under her breath, "what are you doing? Stick to the script."
"But tonight," I raised my voice, ignoring her, "I discovered that everything I knew was a lie. A meticulously crafted, expensive lie."
With a click of the remote control in my pocket, the massive projector screen behind us—which was supposed to show a romantic slideshow of our relationship—flashed to life.
But it wasn't pictures of Tessa and me.
It was a giant, high-resolution scan of the private investigator’s ledger. It showed bank wire transfers of $2 million from Tessa Whitmore’s private account to the investigator’s shell company, dated exactly three days before I found the "proof" of Maren’s affair.
The ballroom erupted into gasps.
"Rowan! Cut the power!" Victoria Whitmore screamed from the front row, her face turning pale as ashes. Security guards rushed toward the AV booth, but I had already paid the technician $50,000 to lock himself inside with a steel bar across the door.
"Look at the screen, everyone," I shouted over the rising panic. "That is the price of a destroyed marriage. But that isn't the worst of it."
I clicked the remote again. The screen changed to the redacted medical document. The words TRIPLETS and CLARA VANCE filled the wall in massive letters, followed by the logistical manifest for the 11:30 PM flight to Zurich, detailing a "living donor payload."
Tessa’s face completely transformed. The elegant, high-society princess vanished, replaced by a snarling, desperate monster. She grabbed my arm, her nails digging into my flesh until I bled. "You bastard! You're ruining everything! Do you have any idea what we will do to you?"
"It's already done, Tessa," I said into the microphone, staring directly into the cameras of the live-streaming press. "The Whitmore family framed my wife, stole my newborn daughter from her crib while she was unconscious from an forced labor, and tonight, they are attempting to smuggle my child to Switzerland to harvest her organs for Richard Whitmore."
The room descended into absolute chaos. Guests began screaming, running for the exits.
"Guards! Grab him!" Tessa shrieked.
Three large security men lunged onto the stage. I managed to dodge the first one, throwing a heavy glass podium into his path, but the second guard tackled me to the ground. A fist struck my jaw, sending a blinding flash of pain through my skull.

As they pinned me down, Tessa knelt beside me, her eyes filled with venomous hatred. She leaned close to my ear. "You think you won, Rowan? You just signed your daughter's death warrant. The plane is taking off early. And you will never see her alive."
She stood up, shouting to her men, "Throw him in the basement. We're leaving for the airport now!"
