Chapter 2 – “The Secret Hidden in the Grandfather’s Journals”

The silence after Ila’s words was unlike any silence the Al-Murad Cultural Center had ever known.

It was not the silence of confusion.

It was not the silence of embarrassment.

It was the silence that came when powerful people suddenly realized they had underestimated someone.

A ten-year-old girl stood in the middle of a room filled with diplomats, businessmen, and scholars.

Her dress was faded.

Her sandals were too large.

Her hands still carried the faint marks of old books and years of helping her mother.

Yet every person watching her understood one undeniable truth.

The smallest person in the room had just shown the greatest understanding.

The leader of the Aiden delegation stared at Ila.

His earlier arrogance had disappeared.

Not because she had defeated him.

But because she had revealed something he had forgotten.

Respect had nothing to do with age, wealth, or status.

The man slowly lowered his head.

A small gesture.

But everyone noticed.

“I owe you an apology,” he said.

The room remained quiet.

He looked at Ila.

“I assumed your appearance represented your knowledge.”

Ila tilted her head slightly.

“That is a mistake many people make.”

A few advisors exchanged surprised glances.

The child did not sound angry.

She sounded like someone who had learned that lesson long ago.

The man nodded.

“You are correct.”

Then he turned toward Idris.

“Your Excellency, I believe we can proceed.”

Idris watched him carefully.

The negotiation began.

But this time, something was different.

The Aiden delegation no longer spoke down to anyone.

Every sentence was translated through Ila.

Every detail was handled with extraordinary precision.

She did not simply translate words.

She translated intentions.

She explained cultural references.

She recognized historical phrases that even professional translators often missed.

And within an hour…

A negotiation that had been close to collapse began moving forward.

People who had arrived angry were now discussing cooperation.

People who had expected failure were witnessing something impossible.

A child had become the bridge between worlds.

When the meeting finally ended, Ila returned to the corner where she had been sitting earlier.

The same wooden chair.

The same old book.

The same quiet place.

But everything had changed.

Nobody walked past her anymore.

Staff members who had ignored her now smiled.

Assistants who had never learned her name now greeted her.

Security guards looked at her with admiration.

But Ila did not seem interested in attention.

She simply opened her book.

Samira watched from a distance.

Her heart was filled with two opposite emotions.

Pride.

And fear.

Because attention was dangerous.

Her father had taught her that.

A gift could become a blessing.

But it could also become a target.

And now the world had noticed Ila.

That frightened her more than anything.

Later that evening, Idris stood inside his private office.

The room was enormous.

Ancient manuscripts lined the walls.

Rare artifacts sat inside carefully protected glass cases.

Most people who entered the office felt overwhelmed.

But Idris was not looking at the treasures.

He was looking at a photograph.

A photograph brought to him by his chief advisor.

The image showed an elderly man.

Thin.

Gray-haired.

Holding several books.

Karim Al-Hassan.

Ila’s grandfather.

“You are certain?” Idris asked.

His advisor nodded.

“Yes, Your Excellency.”

“And the girl?”

“The connection is confirmed.”

Idris looked at the photograph again.

“Tell me everything.”

The advisor opened a folder.

“Karim Al-Hassan was considered one of the greatest linguistic researchers of his generation.”

“I know that.”

“But there is something most people do not know.”

Idris looked up.

“What?”

“He was not only studying ancient languages.”

The advisor hesitated.

“He was studying historical records connected to several royal families.”

Idris leaned back.

“Why?”

“We do not know.”

“Find out.”

The advisor nodded.

“There is another matter.”

“What?”

“His journals.”

Idris’s expression changed.

“The journals disappeared after his death.”

“Yes.”

“Then how does the girl know so much?”

The advisor placed a document on the desk.

“Because according to our sources, Karim left copies with his family.”

Idris looked at the paper.

“Copies?”

“Yes.”

“Where are they?”

The advisor was silent.

That silence immediately caught Idris’s attention.

“Speak.”

“We believe Samira has them.”

The next morning, Idris returned to the cultural center earlier than usual.

He had spent the entire night thinking about Ila.

Not because she was talented.

Many talented people existed.

He had met geniuses.

Scholars.

Scientists.

People who could memorize entire libraries.

But Ila was different.

Knowledge was not the most interesting thing about her.

It was the way she carried it.

Without arrogance.

Without hunger for praise.

Her grandfather’s influence was obvious.

Someone had taught her that knowledge existed to serve others.

Not to make oneself superior.

When Idris entered the main hall, he saw Ila immediately.

She was sitting beside her mother.

Reading.

Samira noticed him.

She immediately stood.

“Your Excellency.”

Idris raised a hand.

“Please.”

Samira lowered her head.

“What can I do for you?”

“I need to speak with you.”

Her expression became guarded.

“About Ila?”

“Yes.”

Samira’s shoulders tightened.

“She did nothing wrong.”

Idris was surprised.

“You think I believe she did?”

“I have seen people like you before.”

The statement was quiet.

But powerful.

“People who become interested only after discovering someone’s value.”

Idris studied her.

“You think I want to use your daughter.”

Samira did not answer.

Her silence was enough.

For a moment, Idris said nothing.

Then he surprised her.

“You are right to be cautious.”

Samira looked up.

“I have met many powerful people who see talent as something to possess.”

He glanced toward Ila.

“But I do not want to possess her talent.”

“Then what do you want?”

“To understand.”

Samira remained silent.

Idris continued.

“Your father.”

Her face changed immediately.

“You knew about him.”

“Yes.”

“And now you want his journals.”

The directness shocked him.

“How did you know?”

“Because that is always what people want.”

Samira looked away.

“They do not care about my father’s memory.”

She looked back.

“They care about what he discovered.”

Idris became very still.

“What did he discover?”

Samira said nothing.

And that silence told him everything.

There was a secret.

A serious one.

That night, after returning home, Samira opened the old wooden chest hidden beneath her bed.

She had not touched it in years.

Dust covered the surface.

Her hands trembled as she unlocked it.

Inside were books.

Dozens of them.

Leather-bound journals.

Pages filled with handwriting.

Arabic.

English.

Ancient scripts.

Maps.

Symbols.

Historical notes.

And on top of everything…

A small envelope.

With one sentence written on it.

For Ila, when the world finally asks who she is.

Samira froze.

She had never opened it.

Because she was afraid.

Afraid of what her father had known.

Afraid of what Ila might become.

Slowly, she opened the envelope.

Inside was a letter.

Her father’s handwriting.

Her eyes filled with tears.

“My dear Samira,

If you are reading this, then the time I feared has arrived.

The world has noticed Ila.

You must understand something.

Your daughter is not special because she speaks languages.

Languages are only the keys.

What matters is what she chooses to unlock.

Years ago, I discovered something hidden inside ancient records.

A forgotten agreement.

A promise between families that could change the balance of power in our region.

Many people wanted that knowledge.

Some wanted it for peace.

Others wanted it for control.

That is why I disappeared.

Not because I was afraid.

Because I wanted to protect my granddaughter until she was ready.

Ila carries something rare.

Not a title.

Not a bloodline.

A responsibility.

She has the ability to connect people who have forgotten how to listen.

Protect her.

But do not hide her forever.

A bird raised in darkness may survive.

But it will never know it was meant to fly.”

Samira covered her mouth.

Tears fell silently.

For years, she had believed hiding Ila was protection.

Now she wondered if she had misunderstood her father’s final lesson.

The next morning, Idris received an unexpected visitor.

Samira.

She entered his office carrying a heavy wooden box.

Idris immediately recognized it.

“The journals.”

She nodded.

“Yes.”

She placed them on the table.

“But there is something you need to understand.”

Idris looked at her.

“These books do not belong to governments.”

“I know.”

“They do not belong to wealthy people.”

“I know.”

“They belong to Ila.”

A long pause.

Then Idris nodded.

“Agreed.”

Samira studied him.

“You are different from the others.”

“Perhaps.”

“No.”

She looked at him carefully.

“You are.”

Idris opened the first journal.

The pages were filled with complex notes.

But something immediately caught his attention.

A symbol.

A symbol he recognized.

His expression changed.

“What is this?”

Samira looked nervous.

“My father found it in several ancient documents.”

“What does it mean?”

She whispered:

“The Keeper’s Mark.”

Idris froze.

Because he knew that name.

Everyone in his world knew that name.

Not because it was famous.

Because it was dangerous.

The Keeper’s Mark belonged to an ancient group of scholars who had protected historical agreements for centuries.

A group believed to have disappeared.

Idris turned the page.

And there it was.

A note written by Karim.

The final keeper is not the strongest.
Not the richest.
Not the oldest.
The final keeper is the one who understands the language of humanity.

Idris slowly looked up.

“Your father believed Ila was…”

He stopped.

He could not finish the sentence.

Samira did.

“The next Keeper.”

The room became silent.

Outside the office windows, the city continued moving.

Cars.

People.

Noise.

But inside, everything changed.

Because Idris Alfaruki had spent his entire life searching for rare things.

Rare artifacts.

Rare documents.

Rare opportunities.

Yet the greatest discovery of his life had been sitting quietly beside a cleaning cart.

A ten-year-old girl with borrowed sandals.

A child who did not know the power she carried.

Then suddenly…

A security alarm sounded.

Idris’s expression changed.

“What happened?”

His assistant rushed in.

“Your Excellency…”

He looked frightened.

“The journals.”

Idris stood.

“What about them?”

“The news has leaked.”

Samira went pale.

“Impossible.”

The assistant swallowed.

“And someone is already coming.”

“Who?”

The assistant hesitated.

Then answered:

“The people who spent fifteen years trying to find Karim Al-Hassan’s research.”

A cold silence filled the room.

Idris looked toward the window.

The game had changed.

Ila was no longer invisible.

May you like

And now…

The world was coming for her.
