Chapter 10 - THE EVERLASTING SAFE HAVEN

Two years later. Spring 2026.

The late afternoon sun cast a warm, golden blanket over the gardens of our permanent home in San Diego—a beautiful white house surrounded by blooming bougainvillea, citrus trees, and the constant, soothing melody of the ocean waves below.

The outdoor dining table under the wooden pergola was set for dinner. Flowers decorated the center, surrounded by fresh food, laughter, and light.

Marcus Cole and Victoria Vance were sitting at the table, enjoying wine with Florence, while David helped set out fresh grilled vegetables.

I stood near the garden path, holding hands with two-and-a-half-year-old Hannah.

She was wearing a bright, pale pink dress—a color I had once feared, but which now represented new beginnings. Her dark hair curled wildly around her sweet face, and her dark eyes were filled with endless curiosity, intelligence, and joy.

“Mama, look!” Hannah squealed, pointing toward a blue butterfly fluttering above the lavender bushes.

“It’s beautiful, sweetheart,” I whispered, kneeling beside her and kissing her warm cheek.

She wrapped her tiny arms around my neck, holding me tight, her soft breathing warm against my skin.

Looking across the garden at Florence laughing freely with Marcus and Victoria, at David placing fresh bread on the table, and down at the bright, fearless little girl in my arms, I felt a deep, overwhelming sense of victory.

We had walked through the dark valley of deceit, abuse, and terrifying isolation. We had fought an invisible monster in the quiet spaces of our own home. But we hadn't just survived—we had conquered.

Hannah pulled back, looking at me with her bright, clear eyes, completely untouched by the shadows of her past.

“I love you, Mama,” she said clearly, her voice like music in the ocean breeze.

May you like

I held her close against my heart, looking out at the endless horizon where the ocean met the sky.

“I love you too, my brave little girl,” I whispered softly. “You are safe now. Forever.”
