Chapter 9 - Unspoken Words

The main theater of the center was packed. The lights dimmed, and a soft, rhythmic bass line began to vibrate through the floorboards, allowing everyone in the audience to feel the tempo of the music.
Serena stepped onto the stage under a warm golden spotlight. She didn't speak. Instead, she began a beautiful, lyrical dance that integrated sign language into every movement, telling a story of isolation, discovery, and the bridges built between worlds.
Halfway through the performance, Kalista stepped out from the wings, joining Serena. The two girls moved in perfect synchronization, their hands weaving poetry through the air, translating a beautiful song about friendship and family that played softly through the speakers for the hearing audience members.
Sitting in the front row, Adelaide felt tears streaming down her face. She reached out, her hand finding Elias’s in the darkness. Elias caught her hand, his fingers wrapping around hers, offering a steady, grounding warmth. They didn't look at each other; their eyes were fixed on the beautiful future they had created on that stage.
When the performance ended, the theater erupted into "deaf applause"—hundreds of hands raised in the air, twisting rapidly back and forth, a silent, beautiful ocean of appreciation.
Kalista and Serena bowed, holding hands, their faces glowing with pure happiness.
Later that evening, after the crowds had dispersed and the center grew quiet, the four of them stood out on the rooftop terrace, looking out over the twinkling lights of the city skyline.
Kalista walked up to Adelaide and Elias. She looked at their intertwined hands, then up at their faces. With a mischievous grin, she signed to Serena, who chuckled.
"What did she say?" Adelaide asked, smiling.
Serena translated, her eyes twinkling. "She says it’s about time you two figured out what everyone else already knows."
Adelaide blushed, but she didn't let go of Elias's hand. Instead, she looked up at him, finding a profound, steady devotion in his eyes that she had never experienced in her corporate life.
"She’s right, you know," Elias said softly, turning to face Adelaide. "Some things don't need to be spoken to be understood."
May you like
Adelaide smiled, her heart full to bursting. She lifted her free hand and signed directly to Elias, her eyes locked on his: [I love you].
Elias’s smile was radiant. He lifted his hand and signed back: [I love you, too].
