Chapter 3: Whispers in the Dark

Leo began communicating more. Blinks turned into deliberate eye movements. Nora created a board with letters and pictures. Slowly, painfully, messages emerged.

Hurts.

Mommy?

Daddy scared.

Victor watched every session, his heart fracturing. He started joining them, sitting silently at first, then reading stories himself. Nora guided him, her patience a mirror to the father he wanted to be.

But danger loomed. Drew uncovered evidence that the driver who had been with Claire and Leo that night had been paid off—silenced permanently in a “hit and run” weeks after the crash.

Tension exploded when Natalie discovered the hidden cameras. “You’ve been spying on that girl? On your own son? This obsession is destroying us!”

Arguments escalated. Natalie stormed out, threatening to involve her father.

Nora confronted Victor that night in his office. “She’s hiding something. I saw her near the medical supplies yesterday.”

Proof came in the form of tampered records. Someone had tried to alter Leo’s charts to suggest deterioration.

Leo’s condition improved subtly—slight leg twitches during therapy. Nora’s “vitamin cocktail” was working, combined with experimental nerve stimulation she had researched.

A break-in attempt at the estate rattled everyone. Masked figures disabled some cameras, but Drew’s team repelled them. A note left behind: Stop digging.

Victor’s paranoia peaked. He confided in Nora for the first time. “I failed them both. Claire. Leo.”

“You’re fighting now,” she replied softly. “That’s what matters.”
