Chapter 2: The Sound of the Gavel

The voice that cut through the chaos belonged to Elias Vance, the lead investigator for the Federal Bureau of Investigation’s white-collar crime division. He stepped out from behind the sheriff, his presence commanding immediate, terrified silence.

"Harrison Sterling," Elias said, his voice echoing against the historic brick facade, "you are under arrest for federal wire fraud, embezzlement of pension funds, and the systematic laundering of illegal campaign contributions through this very estate."

Victoria’s face lost all color. The champagne flute she had been holding for her toast slipped from her manicured fingers, shattering on the cobblestone walkway. "This is a mistake!" she shrieked, her poise finally evaporating. "My son is a philanthropist! A pillar of this community!"

I stood by my lawyer, Mr. Thorne, watching as Harrison’s bravado crumbled. He looked at me, not with the cold indifference he had displayed hours ago, but with a frantic, animalistic fear. "Clara, please," he stammered, his hands shaking as the officers moved in. "You have to tell them! You know this was all just... just business!"

"No, Harrison," I said, my voice steady, reflecting the months of meticulous document recovery I had led in secret. "That wasn't business. That was theft. You didn't just steal from your investors; you stole from the very people who trusted you to manage their futures. I’m not here as your wife anymore. I’m here as the whistleblower."
