Chapter 10 - The Unbroken House

The sun began to dip behind the western horizon, casting long, golden ribbons of light across the quiet yard.
The guests had slowly departed, leaving the estate in a peaceful, serene hush. The sky above was turned shades of deep violet, amber, and gold, illuminated by the first bright evening stars.
Inside the nursery, Rachel sat in a wooden rocking chair, softly singing a lullaby as Lily drifted into a deep, peaceful sleep, her small hand loosely holding her favorite plush rabbit.
Diane stood in the doorway, watching them through the warm glow of the nightlight.
She walked downstairs, stepping out onto the back porch. The air was cool, carrying the sweet scent of night-blooming jasmine and damp earth.
She walked over to the corner of the porch where Arthur’s central security panel sat mounted inside its neat mahogany box.
The green operation lights were humming softly—clean, steady, and unbroken.
The cameras were still there—monitoring the gate, the driveway, the garden, and the fence line. But they were no longer watching for monsters or guarding against terror. They were simply keeping watch over a home that had been reclaimed by truth, restored by courage, and filled with love.
Diane looked up at the quiet night sky, feeling the cool breeze wrap around her shoulders like a warm, comforting hug from the past.
“We did it, Arthur,” she whispered softly into the peaceful evening air. “Our girls are safe. The truth won.”
The wind rustled gently through the leaves of the old oak tree, sounding very much like an answer.

Diane smiled, turned back toward the warm, lit windows of her home, and stepped inside, closing the door softly behind her.
